The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) is in their 219th General Assembly this week (July 3-10) meeting in Minneapolis, Minn. Cynthia Bolbach was chosen as the moderator. Bolbach is an elder from National Capital Presbytery in Washington and a strong supporter of same-sex marriage. She will oversee the deliberation of a number of contentious resolutions, one being a recommendation to change the definition of marriage to being a covenant between "two people" regardless of gender, rather than between "a man and a woman." Another recommendation is to allow the ordination of non-celibate gays and lesbians. [WashingtonPost.com]
